Project - Pembury Hospital (Phase 1)
Main Contractor - Laing O’Rourke London and South East
Project Duration - 14 weeks
This new PFI hospital development near Tunbridge Wells in Kent is a major new healthcare undertaking. The hospital complex is the first hospital in the UK to offer exclusively single occupancy rooms on each ward and has utilised state of the art technology throughout. The external spaces on the project have been designed to maximise the impact of the surrounding woodland and provide habitat for local birdlife.
Total Protection were contracted to provided the hard surface finishes across the first phase of the project. From the specialist slab paving and major block paved access roads to clearly demarked ambulance access routes and resin bound aggregate pathways. The project involved co-ordination with a number of contractors and installing the works of multiple visits on a complex phased program. With considerations needing to be made for not only the successful completion of the construction works but the healthcare functions on the site that remained operational on site during the works and began to occupy the new premises during the completion of the works.
The second phase of the project, due to start summer 2011 will hopefully allow Total Protection to fully complete the development and showcase the multi-disciplinary functions of the current operation of the business. This project has allowed the key sectors of Total Protection, the preparation and ground works teams, commercial hard landscape teams, resin bound aggregate crews and the specialist installation functions to operate concurrently. This has provided the client with the unique ability to have a specialist sub-contractor able to accommodate any number of requests with minimum co-ordination and adding value to the project.
